Indexing Valves

If you have an Indexing Valve and are wanting to use it with a B-hyve timer or an Orbit Underground Timer, then this article will help with wiring and programming.

There are two methods to wire and program an indexing valve

– Multiple Start Time Method

– Jumper Wires Method

* Please note that if you have a B-hyve timer, while connected to an Indexing Valve the smart watering program feature will not work.

Multiple Start Time Method

For this method, connect the wires from the Master Valve or Pump to the common terminal and station 1 terminal on the timer. Then program the timer with programs that have multiple start times with a 5-minute delay in between them.

This wiring and programming option is good for customers who want the zones to run for similar amounts of time.

Below is an example situation for this method as well as a picture showing what the wiring should look like.

Example: You have an Indexing Valve that controls 4 zones

Example Program:

– Set zone 1 to run for 10 minutes

– First run time: 7 AM

– Second run time: 7:15 AM

– Third run time: 7:30 AM

– Fourth run time: 7:45 AM

Jumper Wires Method

Connect the wires from the Master Valve/Pump to the common terminal and zone 1 terminal on the timer.

Connect a jumper wire from the Zone 1 terminal to the Zone 3 terminal and from the Zone 3 terminal to the Zone 5 terminal. Then program a 30-minute interval with a 2-minute delay between the zones.

This is a good wiring and programming choise if you will want to have different amounts of watering time for each zone.

Below is an example situation for this method as well as a picture showing what the wiring should look like.

Example: You have an Indexing Valve that controls 2 zones and want to run your first zone for 10 minutes, the second zone for 15 minutes, and the third zone for 20 minutes.

Example program:

-Run time: 7AM

-Set zone 1 to run for 10 minutes

-Set zone 2 to run for 2 minutes

-Set zone 3 to run for 15 minutes

-Set zone 4 to run for 2 minutes

-Set zone 5 to run for 20 minutes
