Pairing the Hose Timer and Hub
This article will go over several scenarios to help find out what connection issue you may be seeing, and then help identify and solve the problem.
If you are saying the following:
- “My B-hyve device keeps disconnecting from the Hub”
- “I can’t get my hose timer to pair with my Hub”
Then you should ask the following questions:
- Does the property have Wi-Fi?
- Has the device been connected to Wi-Fi?
- Have I entered your Wi-Fi password into the B-hyve app?
- Does my Wi-Fi have separate 5g and 2.4ghz networks?
- How far away from the router is the Hub?
- Did I upgrade or change anything with my home Wi-Fi network recently?
- Have I installed the Orbit Assist app?
Step 1
Installing the Orbit Assist app/RouteThis Helps
How:
If using an iPhone or iPad (iOS): Search the App Store for ‘Orbit Assist’
If using an Android device: Search the Google Play App Store for ‘Orbit Assist’.
Install the App and follow the prompts to conduct a network scan. After the scan is done, the app will provide a diagnosis of your network’s health and there will be a button you can tap on to see how to improve the health if needed.
Other:
If you have already installed the App and run a network scan, you may have a code to provide.
After checking their scan results, be sure to use any information in the cards at the top to help identify any possible issues.
Step 2
Confirming the hub is in a good location
How:
Make sure your Wi-Fi Hub is in a central location indoors. Your hub will need to be in a location with good Wi-Fi coverage and within 50 feet of your hose timer.
Step 3
Ensuring that you are close to the device.
How:
To resolve this issue, you’ll need to ensure that you’re close to your hub.
Please stay close to your device until we’re finished to ensure a stable connection.
Being close to the timer is very important for connection-based troubleshooting, as a Bluetooth connection is needed to reconnect to the network.
Step 4
Putting your Hub and Hose timer into pairing mode
How:
Go to both your Hub and Hose timer and press the B-hyve button 5 times. After doing this the light should be blinking blue. (If the hose timer does not start blinking blue, try pressing the button 10 times)
Step 5
How to update Wi-Fi settings
How:
- Open the B-hyve app
- Select ‘My B-hyve’
- Select ‘Devices’
- Select the device
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select ‘Update Wi-Fi Settings’
- Confirm the MAC address shown matches the device
- A list of available Wi-Fi Networks will display – select your home Wi-Fi network.
- Scroll down and ensure you enter your password if your network is secured
- Click ‘Connect’
- Your device should now be connected to your Wi-Fi network
Make sure your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network – Your B-hyve device doesn’t communicate with 5 GHz networks, and blended networks can cause issues. If you’re using a blended network, please separate the 2.4 GHz and have it set up with its own SSID (if you’re not sure how to do this, please reach out to your Internet Service Provider and/or your router’s manufacturer).
Alternatively / Other:
Network name doesn’t show:
- Click the refresh icon to try again.
- If unsuccessful, try moving the timer closer to the Wi-Fi router during connection.
Hidden Network / Wi-Fi network doesn’t broadcast name:
- Click ‘Advanced’ then manually enter the network details.
Still unsuccessful:
- Unplug Wi-Fi Hub. Wait 10 seconds then reconnect power and try again.
- Ensure
- Turn router and phone off for 10 seconds before turning back on and trying again.
- Ask customer to check their firewall, MAC filtering and DNS settings – We recommend using the public Google DNS settings (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4).
- If still unsuccessful, initiate the Warranty Replacement process.
Step 6
Naming the Hub and setting the location
How:
- The B-hyve app will ask the you to enter your location
- At a minimum a postal / zip code is required
- Name the device and add a picture (Optional)
Step 7
Pairing the Hose Timer
How:
- The B-hyve app will prompt you to pair the Hose Timer with their Hub
- Match the Hose Timer’s MAC address to the one displayed in the app.
Alternatively / Other:
If you found a timer with a different MAC address, tap “This is not my device”.
If it did not find your timer, perform a power cycle by removing the battery pack for 5 seconds, and then re-inserting the battery pack. Ensure the timer has fresh batteries.
Then, factory reset by pushing the B-Hyve Button 5 times and try again.
Step 8
Connecting the Hose Timer to Wi-Fi
How:
- The B-hyve app will prompt the customer to choose a device group.
- If the customer only has a Wi-Fi Hub, they will only have one option.
- The B-hyve app will ask the customer to again enter their location
- At a minimum a postal / zip code is required
- Name the device and add a picture (Optional)
