I have a B-Hyve Model #59750 timer and I can not get Orbit rain sensors to work with the timer. Here is some history…
The timer was purchased and installed and worked properly. I had Orbit support upgrade the firmware so the unit would show the rain delay on the timer. I purchased a hard wired Orbit rain sensor model #57069 and attached it to the timer as per the instructions. (Just connect 2 wires to the timer’s two “sensor” poles). I pressed and held the “Delay” button until “Sensor On” was on the timer display. According to the instructions, if you have a zone watering and you press the button on the top tip of the rain sensor, it simulates that the sensor detects rain and the zone should stop watering. This did not happen. I press the button on the rain sensor and the timer continues to water. So I thought it may be a bad sensor. I then realized that there was a wireless version of the Orbit rain sensor, so I purchased that unit (Model #57071). I hooked it up as per the instructions. I ran a zone manually and pressed the button on the top tip of the sensor. The zone continued to water. The receiver on the wireless sensor indicates that the button is pressed every time I do so but the Bhyve timer does not register a rain delay and continues to water. So I called Orbit technical support and ran through alot of troubleshooting. In the end, the tech thought that there was a hardware problem with the timer and told me to get a replacement from the retailer. I got the replacement timer today, installed it, hooked up the wireless rain sensor. I ran a zone manually and pressed the button on the rain sensor and again, the zone continued to water and the timer did not register a rain delay. I also hooked up the wired rain sensor and tested it with the same results. So something is amiss…

Two different Bhyve timers and two different rain sensors and none of the timers register a rain delay when you press the button on the rain sensors as per the sensor instructions. Am I missing something here? I don’t think I could have had two defective timers or two defective rain sensors. I think that there is some sort of configuration issue or maybe the behavior of the timer when the button is pressed on the rain sensors is different than the instructions say. Could someone help here? I’ve already spent over an hour on hold with tech support trying to get this work.

Followup…I did a live chat with Gillian at Orbit and she informed me that the rain sensor will only work during a scheduled timer event. It will not work when you manually run a zone or program. I scheduled a program to run a few minutes in advance and when the program started running, the rain sensor did indeed stop the watering when I pressed the rain sensor button. I figured I would leave this up just in case anyone else runs into this issue when installing a rain sensor with a Bhyve timer. (Nowhere in the instructions for the timer or the rain sensors was this explained. The first Orbit tech I spoke to did not realize this either.)
