Water Hammer

Water Hammer (also referred to as hydraulic shock), is caused in water systems either when a tap is turned off quickly, or by fast-acting valves, which suddenly stops the water from moving through the pipes and sets up a shock wave through the water, causing the pipes to vibrate and shudder. This can sometimes sound like a thumping or screeching sound.

To address this, we recommend installing a water hammer arrestor.

Water hammer arrestors are used to absorb the shock when water flowing in a piping system suddenly stops. We do not have any specific arrestor that we recommend, and Orbit does not sell this part.
