I have a number of bugs this season and I’ve not had any luck trouble shooting them. I’ve had the controller 3 years and other than a short lived issue last year, the controller has worked great. This year though, the app seems to have an issue sharing and adjusting the schedule between the different app pages (Calendar, Home, Zones). For example, right now, Zone 6 shows that it is scheduled to water tomorrow (Aug 5th) for 51 minutes under calendar. Under home, the smart watering schedule says the same thing but if you go to zones, it says soil moisture is at 100% (which it should be after all the rain) and is not scheduled to water until Aug 7th. Another annoyance with this is that sometimes the controller will follow the calendar schedule and sometimes it will follow the date shown under zones.

Another issue has to do with rain fall precipitation. The controller only wants to delay water if there is a precipitation event predicted but not when a significant one happens. I do believe this is what it says under weather adjustments but for example, yesterday, it rained 0.56 inch at my house, and my weather station is the one that the controller is tied to. That precip showed up as water added to the soil profile and a few of my zones still watered. The soil moisture didn’t change at all. We’ve had about an inch of precip at my house in the last three days and even though it shows in the calendar as moisture added, the controller is not adjusting the schedule and the soil moisture content. For a while earlier this summer, the precip was not even registering in the calendar. I’ve checked my zone settings and they are all set to receive all or most of the rainfall.

I didn’t have these issues last year really and it’s frustrating to have a “smart controller” and it not serve the function it was designed for. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I’ve gone to the beta version. I’ve power cycled the controller. None of it seems to work. I’m wondering if a factory reset on the controller and setting everything back up would help but that is a bunch of work I’d rather not do if I don’t have to. Sorry for the little bit of a rant here. Just hoping someone has some ideas or maybe someone is having the same issues.

My answer: manage changes manually. When there’s rain (not this summer….). I just manually set rain delay everywhere for however long needed, and extend it if needed. Far easier than relying on something that is supposed to be “intelligent” that just…isn’t.

I guess that’s what I’m going to have to do. My old manual timer worked just fine but the automation sounded really good. What is frustrating is that everything worked just fine the last two years. Not sure what they messed up this season but it would be nice if they were more responsive to fixing issues like this to better the product.
